While trying to figure out the perfect new wall color for my living room, I have acquired quite a collection of paint samples and swatches. Forgotten squares of color I once thought I adored keep turning up unexpectedly to remind me that choosing the right color is more of a challenge than I had anticipated.

Where do I even begin?

CertaPro Painters co-founder, Ed Waller, had some good starting points .

He suggested I first find the existing dominant colors I wish to keep in the room – like my beautiful chocolate brown couch – then decide on the mood I want to create. Warm, rich tones would be the best bet in this case as I want to make the place feel cozier . Okay, it's a good start.
