Don’t let the bedbugs bite
It seems like lately, I’ve been hearing a lot of stories about bedbug infestations. Whether it’s in a luxury hotels or their own apartment, the last thing anyone wants is to wake up covered in the itchy welts caused by sharing a bed or furniture with a bunch of bedbugs. Since bedbugs move from one location to the next by hitchhiking on luggage, furniture or clothing, the people at Terminix gave me a few tips for making sure that you’re not sharing your home with these pests.

- Inspect vintage furniture, antiques, used appliances or consignment items for signs of bedbugs before purchasing or bringing them into the home.
- Tip 2: Never pick up used mattresses or furniture left curbside
- Tip 3: Inspect and wash (in warm water) previously-worn clothing that has been donated or purchased from consignment shops
- Tip 4: Quarantine infested items. Moving them within the home can spread the problem
- Tip 5: Use zippered encasements on infested mattresses and box springs
- Tip 6: If you suspect you have bedbugs, have your home inspected by a trained professional. Bedbugs can not be controlled by over-the-counter treatments and will require the assistance of a pest control operator.
