Organize Your Home Finances

With both tax time and spring cleaning season rapidly approaching, Ameriprise Financial has some helpful tips for giving your finances a yearly checkup that I thought might come in handy. Here are their suggestions for what you need to organize and evaluate:
  • Manage your financial paperwork. Between credit card accounts, checking accounts, retirement accounts, mortgage bills and investment records, it is easy to acquire too much paperwork. Take a minute to consider what you really need to keep and what you can toss. Just remember to shred any documents with personal information.
  • Check on your credit score.
  • Analyze your budget. Think about your financial priorities and make any necessary adjustments to your spending.
  • Plan for retirement. Evaluate your retirement accounts to see if you’re saving enough to retire when you’re ready.
  • Check your healthcare spending. Review your healthcare savings account or Medicare drug benefit to see if you are fulfilling your deductible, if you have built up enough in your account to pay for the rest of the year, or if you are close to approaching the Medicare doughnut hole.
