Money and Maternity Leave

Although we don't have children yet, my husband and I have had the stay-at-home vs. continuing to work conversation several times. Taking even a few months off for maternity leave can be frightening when you're not sure if your family can get by on one income, especially in these uncertain economic times. Carmen Wong Ulrich, host of CNBC's 'On The Money', answers iVillager carreonme's question about how you can make sure your maternity leave won't compromise your family's financial security:

"Anyone else worried about the economy and taking maternity leave? It is never a good time to go through an economic depression but it is even worse if you are not going to be working for three months. I really want to go to part-time after the baby is born but with the way things are looking how are we going to manage on one reduced income? Our neatly packaged plans are seeming less and less likely as the economic news gets worse."
