Garage Sales Galore

yardsale.jpgI'm gearing up for a weekend of garage sale shopping. The second Saturday in August —that's tomorrow —is National Garage Sale Day, so don't be surprised if you see a plethora of sales as you drive around your neighborhood this weekend. From little local sales to the World's Longest Yard Sale, which will stretch from Ohio to Alabama this weekend, there should be a wealth of treasures available for the taking.

And if you're feeling really ambitious, make room for all your garage sale finds by holding a sale of your own. In honor of National Garage Sale Day here are a few great tips for holding a garage sale:

I bought a gold mantel clock for 2$. The sellers were selling their Grandmother things. They told me the clock wasn't working and I don't know much about clocks but it was pretty. I took it to a clock repair shop, got it repaired and now it is worth $1500.00 It is an Atmos clock made in 1953, it cost me $150.00 to get it repaired.

I found a white gold band with what looked like diamonds but it was so encrusted with dirt it was hard to tell.It was in a box with another gold ring with one smaller diamond. When I ask how much for the two rings she said $25.00. I didn't know if the diamonds were real or not but I felt the gold which was marked 14k was worth the $25.00 and it was just the type of ring I had always wanted but could never afford . After I took them home and cleaned them with a toothbrush I felt pretty sure they were real diamonds, so I took them to a jewelry store to have them looked at. Well, much to my surprise the jeweler told me that the band with five diamonds was worth $2,500.I have worn that ring everyday since I found it.The other ring I sold for $50.00. So keep your eyes open, you just never know what you might find.
