IKEA, Pottery Barn Kids and Target Recall Blinds after 3 Children are Killed

Six companies, including IKEA, Pottery Barn Kids and Target, are recalling over 5.4 million blinds and shades after 3 children were killed and 7 were injured when they got tangled in the cords. Here's a list of the products affected by the recall and how you can find out if your window treatments are included.

  • Oval Roll-up Blinds or Woolrich Roman Shades imported by Lewis Hyman, Inc and sold at Target or Target.com. Go to the Lewis Hyman website to find out if you're blinds are part of the recall.

  • MELINA Roman Blinds sold at IKEA with a sewn-in label at the top edge of the blind with the IKEA logotype, article name (MELINA), 5-digit supplier number 19395, four digit date stamp (YYWW) and the words "Made in Taiwan". Go to the IKEA website to find out what you should do if your blinds fit this description.

  • All roman shades with exposed inner cords on the back sold through the Pottery Barn Kids catalog and website from January 2003 through May 2007. Contact Pottery Barn Kids for more information.

  • Thermal Sailcloth and Matchstick Bamboo Roman Shades imported by Victoria Classics and sold at Target stores and at Target.com. Go to the Victoria Classics website for more information.

  • Custom-ordered made-to-measure manual roller shades made by Virginia Iron and Metal Company and sold at specialty dealers and Expo Design Centers. Visit the shades' distributor's site for information on how to order a repair kit.

  • All custom-made vertical and cellular window coverings sold at Vertical Land stores in Panama City and Pensacola, Fla. from January 1992 through December 2006 that do not have a cord tensioning device and horizontal blinds that do not have inner cord stop devices. Call Vertical Land at (800) 423-8653 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. CT Monday through Friday to receive a free repair kit.

Even though none of my window treatments are a part of this recall, it's a good reminder to check them all for looped pull cords or exposed inner cords when I go home tonight. And if I find any, I think I'll be taking them down.
