Will you be watching the Emmy Awards this Sunday? I usually don't have the patience to sit through the awards show, but I do like to watch what the celebrities are wearing and see the new trends—in clothes and home decor. I know, you don't really expect to get decorating ideas from an awards show, but every year Architectural Digest chooses a designer to create a space where the presenters and nominees can relax before the show. This year, Architectural Digest picked celebrity designer Martyn Lawrence-Bullard. And what trends did Lawrence-Bullard highlight in his Greenroom...

He combined a palette of deep red, olive green, dark brown and Mediterranean blue with Turkish- and Moorish-style furniture and rich leather floors under an 18-foot-high tent to create this opulent-looking space.
While I probably can't afford antique furniture like the tea tables with inlaid mother-of-pearl and tortoise shell from 1stdibs.com, a custom-designed 12' x 14' hand-knotted rug from The Rug Company or leather floor tiles that are made using a process so complicated that only one tannery in the world is capable of producing them, there are affordable alternatives out there to help you get a similar look. For example, this leather ottoman from Pier 1 and these candle lanterns from Target are stylish but won't cost a fortune.

Ever wonder what it's like backstage at the Oscars? It's not all chaos and confusion. Hollywood's elite get to hang out in a pretty swanky space while waiting for their turn on stage. This year's Architectural Digest Greenroom at the OscarsĀ® was designed by Stephen Shadley for Architectural Digest magazine. Shadley designed the room with Hollywood film sets from the seventies in mind. He mixed new and vintage furniture to get this "Seventies Modern" look.
Just a thought, but it occurs to me that the room kind of looks like my mother's living room when I was growing up. She always did have great taste. Wait 'til she hears that style is back in vogue. So what do you think? Do you love it or is it too seventies for you?
